OBAMA PETITION INSTRUCTIONS

(President Obama and all other candidates must get the signatures of 10,000 registered voters from across Virginia in order to be on the ballot for the March 6, 2012 Presidential primary)

1.         At the top of the form, (above) write in the name of the county or city of the eligible voters that are signing the form.  Only people from that county or city may sign that form.  If you meet someone from a different county or city, start a new form for people from that city or county.

2.         Make as many additional copies of the petition form (above) as you need.  You must, however, make copies of both sides of the form, back to back.

3.         Anyone who is a registered voter can sign the petition.  Signers must both print and sign their name, provide their home street address and city/county, zip code, (no P.O. boxes) and write the date they signed the petition.  This information is mandatory.  It is not mandatory that they write down their social security number.

4.         Tell the signers that by signing the form they are not certifying that they are going to vote for President Obama or that they even are a member of the Democratic Party.  Rather, by signing, they are agreeing only that President Obama should be able to compete in the March 6, 2012 Virginia Democratic Primary.  Voters can sign the petitions of all of the presidential candidates.

5.         Anyone who is eligible to vote in Virginia may circulate petitions. A circulator can obtain signatures on petitions in any location in the state, provided that separate sheets are used for signers who live in different counties and cities.  You must personally view the signatures being provided – do not leave the petition form unattended.

6.         When a form is completed, the person circulating the petition must (1) print their name, address, county/city, and social security number in the blank spaces on the bottom of the backside of the form and (2) sign the form in the space provided and have their signature notarized.  (Banks, real estate offices and law offices often have notaries that will notarize the forms at no cost.)  Once the circulator signs, dates, and has his/her signature notarized, the form may not be used to collect any more petition signatures.

7.         Please return all signed and notarized forms to:
