Senator Don McEachin - 9th District
The 7th Congressional District includes a part of the northern end of the 9th Senate District in Hanover and Henrico Counties.
Outside of the 7th CD, the 9th Senate District includes parts of Henrico County and the city of Richmond, and all of Charles City County.
Senator McEachin was first elected to the Virginia State Senate in 2007 when he won an overwhelming victory. He serves on the
Agriculture, Conservation and Natural Resources; Commerce and Labor; General Laws and Technology; and Privileges and Elections Committees.
Back in 1996, Donald was first elected to public office, to the Virginia House of Delegates. He served until 2001 when he
gave up his seat to run for the Democratic nomination for attorney general. In a tough field of candidates, Donald won a
resounding victory. Although he was not successful in the fall election, his participation on the ticket was a contributing
factor to the victory of former Governor Warner. Then, in 2005, Donald was re-elected to his former seat in the House of
Delegates. He was gratified that people remembered his hard work and dedication of years past and voted him their
representative.
Senator McEachin is a graduate of American University, the University Of Virginia School Of Law (juris doctor), and Virginia
Union University (M. Div.). After practicing with Browder, Russell, Morris and Butcher and Morris and Morris in Richmond, he
opened a law firm with the Gee brothers, McEachin and Gee. In 2001 Donald went out on his own, founding the McEachin Law
Firm on Broad Street in Richmond before rejoining with his partner, Donald Gee, in 2006. The McEachin Gee Law Firm has
successfully helped many Virginians to get the resources they need after accidents or injury. Donald has always stood up for
working Virginians, families and children in need.
Donald is very active in the community, and is a lifetime member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, the NAACP, the Virginia State
Bar and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association. He and his wife Colette have three daughters and live in Henrico County.
Colette is also an attorney with extensive experience, presently working in the Richmond City Commonwealth's attorney's office.
